Meet BetaBlue

BetaBlue is JetBlue aircraft number 651, an airplane equipped with onboard Wi-Fi access points and an air-ground antenna enabling passengers to send and receive emails and instant messages while in-flight. Its public launch on December 11, 2007, marked the first time a domestic carrier has offered in-flight connectivity, and the first time any carrier worldwide has offered such a service at no charge to passengers. <read more>

How It Works
After BetaBlue reaches 10,000 feet, passengers can access JetBlue’s wireless onboard network to send and receive emails, text messages and IMs via LiveTV’s nation-wide air-to-ground communications link
Wi-Fi Enabled
Passengers can use Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerrys, laptops and other smartphones to access BetaBlue’s network. In order to maintain optimal bandwidth performance, attachments and internet browsing should be avoided.
Flight Status
Yahoo’s new Flight Status application can stamp all Yahoo! Mail sent from BetaBlue, allowing earth-bound friends to not only receive emails from the sky, but also see exactly where in the air the message was sent from.
